Greetings!

The postlady always rings...

... once, usually, in a quiet, refined manner, with no hint of lust, impropriety, or murder. And today, some random fruits of my current Bay of Pigs project arrived:

A Minitanks Jeep with .50 cal - just the ticket for both the Brigade and the Fidelistas. As you can see from the photograph below, the Jeep does look small next to one of the Brigadistas:

But I don't care in the slightest. I have decided to design the BoP project with an inbuilt old school feel to it. The main reason is, of course, the strange absence of M41s in 1/76 or 1/72, but given that it looks as if I will be using the Lyall's Operation Warboard rules (from the 1970s), I think that Minitanks are just the ticket.

The Jeep came as part of an e-bay job lot, which included (above) a Schwimwagen and a Mobelwagen, and:

All these riches for £10! I'm actually reluctant to open the boxes, as they are clearly old stock, and look as if they have been part of someone's hoard for many a long year. As for the vehicles, they are all pristine, and even have the little wheels underneath on the AFVs. Very crisply made, and deceptive too in that they are stronger than their lightness suggests.

  1. They are nice looking models indeed. I once bought one of the Roco Tiger tanks form an antique shop: they are nicely detailed, but I am a scale freak so I haven't mixed it in a game yet. I look forward to seeing them on the table!

    1. Yes, they are pretty sharp in detail terms, but there is a noticeable difference when placed next to even 1/76 kit. If you're a scale freak, it would be best avoided. But I've put myself into an old school frame of mind for this project.

  2. Ten quid Stephen! You got a bargin. I too have been quite miffed about the absence of the Bulldog in braille scale. Considering the numbers produced and the fact that they have seen more than a bit of service it is rather odd.

Wanting one meant that in the end I had to engineer one out of a M24 Chaffee with varied results.

    The links show the nightmare.

    1. Yes, Paul, one of my better e-bay forays. Funny enough, I bought a Chaffee a while ago with the same idea in mind - but, knowing my limitations, I thought better of it! Quite agree with the M41 - is this the main missing link in our scale, I wonder?

  3. Give you joy of your ebay find sir!
I have kept the minitanks in their packaging too as I can't bear to part with it .It talks of another time and place to me.
Glad the project is proceeding and being such a pleasure for you.
    best wishes
    Alan
