Greetings!

.... stopped play

A brief holiday has stopped the portable play.

Where have Alf and Mrs Ront (or Al and Mrs Front) been?

New England....?

No:

It's grand old Blighty!  I ate fish and chips here, drank a couple of pints of ale, then walked along the pebbles, listening to the wind and the sound of the depleted British Army firing bursts at the nearby ranges.

While all around, there are the signs of defence. Above, against the French, who sacked this place several times, or, below:

one who made it home from the great defensive wars for the protection of the rump of Christendom.

While, above, the memory of an Imperial soldier (and was he related to the famous Skinner of 'Skinner's Horse'?).

But, everywhere, the sea:

and, understandably, the sign of Trinity House.

Finally, a new decorative tile on the wall of a house:

The BVM and the Saviour. Blessed art thou among women...

    1. It's the Kent-East Sussex border area. So the weatherboard house is one of many in the very fine town of Winchelsea. The Britannia is on the Dungeness wild lands, as is the Trinity House sign, while the Crusader and Skinner are in the large (but still a small remains) Anglican Church of St. Thomas the Martyr in Winchelsea, where the BVM and the gate are. Cracking place!

  2. Almost like my blessed spot on Vectis (we were sacked a lot by the French).

    1. Warmish...round the corner and down a bit. A mixture of Kent and East Sussex.

    1. You lucky man! I first went down that end of the blessed isle in 2000, for shooting at the Hyde ranges. The air and the light were perfect, so I then went a few times and camped out on Winchelsea beach. Marvellous place, and great to watch the storm Doris roaring up the Channel!

  6. ..lots of clues - the 'Shepherd Neame' pub automatically puts you in Kent I'd say (or not far from the county) and a partial view of the Marshes in the background there too ?

    1. Ah, well done, that man! Yes, The Britannia is on Dungeness. As it boasts - the only pub on that strange spit of land/gravel/pebbles. And a fine pub too! So that's Kent. Then across, at Rye, into Sussex, a bit further on and the town gate of Winchelsea, with the marshes, and the famous 'military canal', in the background. Beautiful. Hearts' ease country.
